More About METTA QUINTET

For more than two decades, METTA QUINTET has stood at the forefront of contemporary jazz, combining exceptional musicianship with ambitious, concept-driven projects. Founded by drummer and JazzReach Artistic Director Hans Schuman, this ensemble has earned critical acclaim for recordings that explore literature, urban life, and global culture through original commissioned compositions. The group's debut album, Going to Meet The Man (2002), featured works inspired by the stories of James Baldwin and composed by a remarkable roster of then-emerging artists, including Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Larry Goldings, and George Colligan. Subsequent releases, Subway Songs and Big Drum/Small World, continued the ensemble's tradition of innovative programming, exploring the energy of New York City and the global evolution of jazz.
