February 28 | 7:30 pm | $20 advance / $23 day of show
Musician and storyteller Joe Kye returns to the Walters’ stage, taking listeners on a transcendent personal journey, recollecting lineage and love through multiple generations of his family. Looping violin, vocals, and traditional Korean instruments, his music swirls with spoken word and deep ancestral connection, unraveling our inner cocoons with awareness and self-compassion.
This performance will feature the story of his grandfather's bold escape from North Korea during the Korean War, connecting it to Joe’s life as a child immigrant. Reflective, emotionally impactful, and spiritually resonant, this show inspires hope, joy, and compassion in all ages.
More about Joe Kye
Joe Kye is a musician and storyteller based in Portland, Oregon who’s opened for Yo-Yo-Ma, recorded a TEDx Talk, and been featured on NPR and PRI's The World. His music is a tapestry of his many influences as a Korean American immigrant. Violin-looping meets jazz, classical, and world pop in a sound that defies borders and blurs boundaries.
“With a skeletal framed electric violin, Kye creates layers of melodies, recording digital repetitions in real time that fill the room with rich sounds.” – Oregon Arts Watch
His latest project explores his roots, melding Korean traditional sounds with anything from classical to electronic music.
Show starts at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
